The Anti-Rent War was a tenants' revolt in upstate New York in the period 1839–1845. The Anti-Renters declared their independence from the manor system run by patroons, resisting tax collectors and successfully demanding land reform.
The 1919 Housing and Town Planning Act was signed into law on 31 July 1919.
It was one of the most significant pieces of domestic legislation passed after the First World War and created a comprehensive, nationwide system of public housing provision for the first time, paid for largely by central government and delivered by local authorities and Public Utility Societies (Housing Associations in today’s terminology).

Here in Warrington only five council or social homes were built in 2017-18 to cater for the 3,300+ households on the waiting list.
This is surely unacceptable when these homes are so badly needed.
